Women by Women
Women By Women brings a different perspective to how women and girls across the world are represented while shining a light on women photographers who are often overlooked in their industry.
It forms a key part of ActionAid UK’s commitment to anti-racism and decolonisation, where we actively choose to only produce images and tell stories that are representative of people’s lived realities.

Women By Women 2024
This year, we championed the leadership of women and women’s rights organisations that are providing life-saving support to refugees.
Working with women photographers in Türkiye, Uganda, Bangladesh, Poland and Colombia, our collection of images also challenged negative stereotypes surrounding refugees and highlighted the incredible contributions women and girls are making within their host countries.
Women By Women 2021
In 2021, we launched our second Women By Women exhibition to celebrate women shattering stereotypes in front of and behind the lens.
The exhibition, shot by women photographers from Bangladesh, Palestine, Nigeria, Senegal and Vietnam, highlighted the work of courageous women in challenging circumstances who are breaking down barriers in their communities.
Women By Women 2020
Our first Women By Women exhibition launched in 2020, where we partnered with six women photographers from Afghanistan, Uganda, DRC Congo, Guatemala and South Africa.
The collection of images documented the everyday lives of women, many of whom were trailblazers within their communities.
